Mary, I love your site and am keeping my fingers crossed for you on the 5th!

I think I have found the perfect way for you to transport what you need. You don't want to take one of those big wire supermarket trolleys, it is quite difficult to keep all four wheels going in the same direction, even in the carpark. What you should take is a shopping basket on wheels (a tartan one). You probably have one already, but if not, you can borrow my Gran's, if she can have it back by Wednesday when she goes into town. It would keep your cake and everything nice and dry.

Love to you and Daisy
Ruth

Mary and Daisy,

You are both inspirational. I only wish I could accomplish even half of what you both have! Good luck on your expedition!

My dogs, Geordie & Dooby, and I are breathlessly awaiting news of your trip. With that level of fitness you will reach the top in no time. We were originally intimidated by you and Daisy but we have been copying your fitness regime for a couple of days now and already Geordie is losing weight and starting to look more like a 10 year old than the 12 1/2 year old Border Collie she is. Dooby the prissy Poodle is worried is will be cold but I am knitting him a nice little scarf so he will be fine. We walked a good 500 yards today and it won't be long before we can tackle the steps at the back. You and Daisy are our inspiration Mary! Please send a postcard from the summit.

THE OLD WOMAN AND HER CAT (DOG)

There was an old woman, who rode on a broom,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
And she took her Tom Cat behind for a groom
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.

They travelled along till they came to the sky,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
But the journey so long made them very hungry,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.

Says Tom, 'I can find nothing here to eat,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
So let us go back again, I entreat,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.'

The old woman would not go back so soon,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
For she wanted to visit the man in the moon,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.

Says Tom, 'I'll go back by myself to our house,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
For there I can catch a good rat or a mouse,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.'

'But,' says the old woman, 'how will you go?
With a high gee ho! gee humble.'
You shan't have my nag, I protest and vow,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.'

'No, no,' says old Tom, 'I've a plan of my own,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
So he slid down the rainbow, and left her alone,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.

So now if you happen to visit the sky,
With a high gee ho! gee humble;
And want to come back, you Tom's method may try,
With a bimble, bamble, bumble.

Although this old woman may appear more adventurous in willingly starting such a perilous journey, her aim is clearly more limited: she just wants to visit that old bore, the Man in the Moon, perhaps to ask for a favour, or to help him kill his time.
