You are truly an inspiration MAry. But in looking at your preparations I'm rather worried you havn't taken into account any fluids you might need to take with you. While high energy isotonic sports water may be the in fad I'd seriously suggest several bottles of elderflower champagne as a more practical alternative.

Best of luck.

It is my understanding that these expeditions can cost an arm and prosthetic leg. Did you realise that your age and level of need entitle you to a social work assesment. You should advantage of this and see what level of support your local authority can offer. You will be entitled to attendance allowance which could be utilised for equipment and provisions(bit more beef in the stew and a stick with snow basket attachment) and you may be able to exchange your bus pass for a climbing permit. Good luck to you and on your return we would wellcome an inspirational lecture here at Borrowed Time retirement home.

Excellent! Good show old girl! Alot of climbers these days find it quite fashionable to snub Everest somewhat but despite all this snobbery it is the highest mountain in the world! It's the daddy!

Top tip. I presume you'll be taking your iPod? Good. Iron Maiden "Run to the Hills" is an excellent choice of tune if, in the unlikely event, you hit a difficult spot, the song will get you through it. Failing that try "Learn to Fly" by the Foo Fighters, that should do it. As a last resort – Shame Ward – “That’s my goal”

I was concern when I read you doing all this without oxygen. Fair point, but you are 85!! May I make a suggestion? Helium! Oh yes! Get them lung pumped full of it!! Oh and if you pass out from excessive use of this potential dangerous gas, don't worry, you'll simple float to the top*. You and you dog will wake up on the top of world – job done!

Best of luck! Email me from the summit - (I’ve heard there is WiFi spot up there)

*please note, for decent - simply belch. I'd suggest farting - but you're a lady!

We wish you all the best Mary, I am sure your Irish Stew will do the trick, I have a feeling that Mallory and Irvin took some with them also, along with Mince n' tatties and haggis, neeps n' tatties (jist fit ye need on a cauld day) my tip is heaps of oatcakes and lashing o' Primula, and some ginger snaps, these will suit Daisy also. At least Daisy wont need crampons if you dont cut her nails for a good while.......good luck from Scotland!!!!!

It's good honest people like Mary who have a dream who make you take stock of life and think 'What can I do?'. Doesn't it, eh?
Go on Mary girl, show those Nepalise that Britian still produces world beating climbers, even when they're 85 years old.
I shall write to the Daily Mail about this.

Pay no attention to the doom mongers on this sight, and thoose who require a sense of humour transplant.... Absolutely fantastic show, best of British luck to you.... I suggest a diet of cornish pasties for the ascent. Just what the doctor ordered I believe
