Go Mary Go! As a little training exercise, you ought to come to New York and try scaling the Empire State Building... the publicity would probably raise quite a bit of support for your BIG goal! |

Waaw Mary! You are great. Go climb that mountain, girl. You can do it! Btw: would you plan to open our expedition for aditional members? If so: my mum just turned 76 and very fit after she got some by-passes. I never managed to take her up in the mountains: she did not like the company of unshaved men. But i am quite sure that she would love to go to Everest with a fine lady like you. Let me know if there is any way. Thanks. |

Dearest Mary, Next to your energy and obvious mountaineering skills, it turns out you’re also quite web-savvy! My compliments on your daring project! I would like you to consider though to bring crampons along for Daisy after all. Next to a warm coat and socks and headwear for her of course, and warm pants and boots for yourself. Everest is all rocks and ice they say, and not quite the same as Botley Hill where you’ve been training. Be sure to study the symptoms of altitude sickness well in advance, and what to do should Daisy or you start to get terrible headaches. Also, bring a satellite phone in case – you never know – you have to give up on your way down. Nepal has helicopters to rescue people stuck in the high mountains, and May last year “Eurocopter†even managed to perform a landing on the very summit of Mount Everest! Ask for Didier Delsalle should you, unfortunately, need them. Oh and one more thing: there are many stray dogs there, and sadly rabies is not uncommon. Be sure Daisy has the proper vaccinations so she’ll stay healthy. So, when will the two of you fly to Nepal? I hope the King will grant you an audience when you get there, because – with the courage you show – you certainly deserve a royal welcome! Stay safe, and have fun! |

Mary, what a splendid plan. Style and simplicity is the way to go. You'll be drinking afternoon tea on top of mount everest the time most regular climbers would still be stuck at camp 1! You've certainly got a lot of nerve! Don't mind the unsupportive Dutch people here, they're jealous. One day when I am your age I hope to cross the Sahara desert on my sturdy dutch bicycle, carrying my pet chicken in a handlebar basket. Until then I have you to look up to! |

Dear Mary, It's sad to read some of those stupid comments about some of the Dutch people! I do climb myself, I remember on the South ridge of the Dent Blanche ( 4357m ) A group of 3 climbers, 3 brothers the oldest of the 3 was 79 years old! But i must say Mary, it's not the alps you're going to. The advise i can give you is go over to switserland and give it a go on the Bishorn or Allalinhorn. See how you feel in those conditions.... The other thing i want to say: Mary please don't bring Daisy! The Dog won't survive the altitude and the cold. She probably won't make it to base-camp. I do love dogs, i wouldn't bring my dog up higher then the Twelve Bens! Mary you must be a strong woman! I wish you all the best on your journey to Everest! Keep in touch Best regards Kenneth |

Mary, Wish you al the best in Nepal. Give my kind regards to the nice king and to al the nice maoist people. Maybe you can rent the helicopter to the top. ($75.000) Its better for the dog. Otherwise I think you will have problems with frozen dogfood. Kind regards, JP |

Well mary, i hope you go on national television with this idea. I absolutely love it! please take a camera crew with you and show them what an old woman can do! Also, you may adopt me, but only if you take on an enormous life ensurance to cover this trip, and leave everything to me. |
